An old reporter friend of Max's shows up in Pearl Bay, where he is surprised to learn how committed Max is to the local newspaper, and then invites Laura on a date, which exposes Max's true feelings for her. Miranda turns against her father after he moves in with his mistress, while Rupert finally realizes that his parents will never reunite. Tempers flare in court when Harold's long-estranged wife finds herself in a bitter dispute with her neighbor. And Heather attempts to force Bob to make nice with her recently-found parents, Harold and Meredith, but the process is harder than she expected.
